SK*Anonima/Luci • Heith present TRANSITION

Back to Special Projects

The multimedia installation that will occupy DumBO’s Binario centrale is a site-specific intervention created for the 15th edition of ROBOT Festival. Based on the theme of TRANSITION, it seeks to explore Anonima/Luci’s core research on space and its perception.

A space is not defined by solid walls that mark its boundaries. A space is fluid and ever-changing, something ephemeral, which takes on the value attributed to it in a specific moment. A space can be something personal, but it can also be something collective; it can be both. Space is a container, and what is found “inside” is perceived through the senses, with their processing through mental processes creating new experiences and bringing past ones to the surface, generating emotions and thoughts.

Light, though it lacks its own material structure, enables the visibility of everything around us. By highlighting its visual materiality, Stefania K. aims to present some of the possible interpretations of an apparently defined physical space, in various forms, freeing the imagination to envision new perspectives, which, even though not physically tangible, define new spaces.

A key element in the collective’s installations is the presence of sound and movement. The intention is to recreate immersive environments where sound guides the creation of new images, as if offering a visual representation of the sound itself. The sound artist Heith’s interpretation of the theme becomes an invaluable narrative element, leading us to oscillate between one world and another, carried and traversed by frequencies that in turn delineate and translate space, creating a boundary zone between materiality and immateriality.

Stefania Kalogeropoulos, born in Athens, currently lives and works in Milan. With a background in architecture, she has always wanted to bring her great passions—music and art—into her work. Along her journey, she discovered a fascination with light, which led her to delve into this highly scientific and complex topic, which is nonetheless incredibly poetic and powerful at the same time. In 2018, she co-founded the collective Anonima/Luci with Alberto Saggia, embarking on a series of adventures and experiments that each day push them to imagine a different world, aiming to share emotions and thoughts that go beyond appearances, in search of the essence of things and the beauty of simplicity.

Anonima/Luci is an art collective founded by Alberto Saggia and Stefania Kalogeropoulos. With backgrounds in design and architecture, they specialize in lighting design and came together in 2018 to launch the project. Research and experimentation, a passion for art, curiosity about science, psychology, and human perception are the ingredients that bring their installations to life. Their medium is light, and their canvas is space, always striving for a deep connection with the location. They often collaborate with sound artists to create immersive environments where apparent reality is replaced by ephemeral worlds.
